This magic shop is located in Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. It is the longest running magic shop in the Pacific Northwest and it is run by its owners Sheila Lyon and Darryl Beckmann. The Pike Place Market is a turn of the century, seven acre historic district overlooking Puget Sound. It is full of restaurants, shops, crafts, and a lively open air farmers' market. It is a place where over 50 languages are spoken, you'll find the rich, the poor, the young and the old. It is considered the soul of the city.
Below the Pike Place level, three more floors under the Main Arcade spill down the back of the hill. The farther you follow the stairs and ramps below, the more offbeat the shops become. You'll find rare books, comics, vintage clothing, and a magic shop.
As you peek inside the shop you will see pictures of famous magicians that have visited the shop, turn of the century magic posters and a fun, jammed pack place of enthusiasm and wonder. Ah yes, look, there is a throng of quiet kids with big eyes, lined up at the counter watching the famous cups and balls, where balls jump around, vanish and reappear.
The magic shop sells cards and coins, books and teaching videos, juggling equipment, tarot cards, dummies and ventriloquism supplies, clowning supplies and jokes and gags. It has magic props for the beginner to the pro, close-up tricks, platform apparatus, stage illusions, escapes, and props for the mentalist and bizarrist. It also has a collection of magic posters, duplicated and originals, postcards, and antique books. It buys and sells used magic.
Got to go, there's a customer.
"Yes sir, we do have a wallet that fire jumps out of and turns into money,"
What?
"You have money to burn...."
Bye, for now.
"Sir, have you seen the new videos on money magic?"
